Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) is seeking an
experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with Operating Room (OR) certification and
recent perioperative experience to join our Surgical Services team. This
position will provide perioperative nursing care and may participate in on-call
coverage for urgent and emergent surgical cases outside of regular operating
hours. Working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthetists and the
nursing team the RN will provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care
in accordance with hospital policies, professional standards and best
practices.
This position requires a highly adaptable nurse with strong
clinical judgment, excellent teamwork skills, and the ability to perform
effectively in urgent situations. The RN will support a variety of surgical
procedures and contribute to maintaining the high standard of care within
AMGH’s surgical program.
Please note: While this posting is primarily intended
to support the regular staffing arrangements, AMGH also welcomes applications
from Operating Room certified RNs who are interested in being scheduled on-call
coverage only. Call shifts require commitment of availability between 1715 -
0715 am. The successful candidate must be able to respond to AMGH within a
call-back time when scheduled for call. Candidates are encouraged to apply to

- Current registration and certification of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario (Undergraduate degree in Nursing preferred)
- Current BCLS certification
- ACLS
- Basic Arrhythmia certification and ECG interpretation
- Code White certification
- Computer literacy and Meditech knowledge and experience
- Experience in the management of patients requiring the following: Epidural Catheter, Mechanical Ventilation, and Pain and Sedation assessment and intervention
- I.V. Therapy
- Knowledge of O.R. principles and aseptic techniques
- NRP
- Post-RN Operating Room certification from an accredited college program required or willing to obtain within six months
- Previous perioperative experience within the last 2 years
- Strong patient assessment skills
- Ability to manage a variety of patient conditions
- Ability to organize related activities; to remain flexible; and adapt to crisis situations and rapid change
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care
- Self-directed, motivated team player with a commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education
- Sound critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution and timely decision making skills
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and organizational skills
- Successful candidate must commit to an on-call schedule
- Consistently meets attendance expectations, demonstrating reliability and commitment to scheduled shifts
