Reporting to the Chief Nursing Executive / VP Clinical Services
the Temporary Full-Time, Manager, Inpatient Mental Health is responsible for
the advancement of nursing knowledge and professional practice to ensure
evidence-based, individualized care of patients and families. This position
manages an expansive range of Inpatient and Mental Health Services. The Manager
also advances and leads the nursing practice within the program and across the
patient care spectrum.
The Manager, Inpatient
Mental Health provides a coordinated, comprehensive clinical and crisis
component of the Hospital’s mental health programs. The Manager is responsible
for planning, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the work assigned to clinical
and professional staff. The Manager ensures the functions of the programs are
aligned to corporate priorities, legislative requirements and best evidence for
the provision of mental health and addictions services in the County of Huron
Health Best Practices requirements.
Education:
- Current registration with the
College of Nurses of Ontario
- Bachelors of Nursing (BSCN),
preferred
- Canadian Psychiatric Mental
Health Nursing Certification CPMHN(c)
- Certificate in crisis
intervention skills (H.A.R.T or NVCI)
Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years
management / supervisory experience in a unionized, healthcare environment
- Minimum five (5) years recent, related experience working in
an acute mental health care program preferably in an inpatient setting
- Recent, related experience training in crisis intervention
skills
- Extensive knowledge of substance abuse
- Expert knowledge of various acts including Mental Health,
PIPEDA, PHIPA
- Extensive experience in case management and leading groups
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychopharmacology and drug
administration
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, significant decision making abilities and effective conflict resolution skills in day-to-day management activities
- Ability to proficiently conduct a mental health assessment intervention and appropriately formulate disposition
- Extensive knowledge of inpatient and community mental health and addictions services and treatment supports
- Demonstrated leadership in the integration of clinical practice guidelines and evidence informed practice and safe, quality patient care
- Demonstrated ability to manage effectively in an inter-professional collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in coaching, mentoring, team development, conflict resolution, consultation and interpersonal relationships
- Effective presentation skills and knowledge to develop and teach educational programs
- Highly developed skills associated with initiative-taking and self-direction
- Evidence of continued professional growth and/or professional development
- Demonstrated leadership, ability to strategically plan and complete projects as identified
- Able to effectively and efficiently provide business-oriented planning and forecasting
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, coach and develop employees during times of change
- Ability to research and implement leading practice, evidence-informed decision-making and quality based programming in order to meet and exceed industry benchmarks and performance metrics
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Database Software, Meditech
- Demonstrated strong communication (written & oral) skills including negotiation, consensus building and conflict resolution
- Ability to work outside of business hours, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to assume administrative on call responsibilities as assigned on rotational basis
